Indoor Air Quality

Indoor Air Quality at PBC TM STIP :

We at PBCTM – STIP, in the year 1996, incorporated Indoor Air Quality System enabling continuous intake of ambient air, duly washed, disinfected and with enhanced humidity, to the interiors of the business centre through air handling units of the air-conditioning system. IAQ ensured that CO2 levels inside the offices are kept minimum, comparable with ambient air as per ASHRAE standards.

Extraordinary features of the System:

• We evolved a natural system of air purification using biotechnology.
• Toxin removing plants are used to clean the air, based on a study by NASA (National Aeronautics and space Administration, USA) and research done by PBC TM -STIP on plants suitable to the Delhi climate.

Green House has plants (like Philondendron, Bamboo Palm, Peace Lily), which absorb toxins like Benzene, Formaldehyde, and Trichloroethylene.

• In addition , we have installed a Chemical Cartridge in our Heat Recovery Wheel in order to reduce some poisonous gases like SO2 which almost reduced to below detectable limits and there has been a partial reduction in the NO2 and SPM level as well.
• HRW retains humidity and then transfer it in similar fashion to temperature differential heat recovery.
• After energy absorption and its tranfer to incoming air by HRW, the air has improved temperature and humidity parameters.
• Positive pressure maintained inside the building.
• The efficiency of the Heat Recovery Wheel installed is 75%.
• As a result of various energy efficient practices at PBC, we have reduced the MDI from 735 KvA to 552 KvA in the year 2007.

Characteristics that make it stand out from other comparable designs :

• Implementation of Indoor Air Quality at Paharpur Business Centre was itself an innovation and the commissioning of Heat Recovery wheel was an added feature with a view of reducing the load on the chillers thereby reducing the energy consumption.
• A natural system of air purification using biotechnology is used at PBC, which makes it one of the most efficient methods to be deployed for maintaining the quality of indoor air.

Relevance to the Indian subcontinent :

PBC TM - STIP was the first business centre in Delhi to commission a Heat Recovery Wheel in the Indoor Air Quality System. Since a pollution level in Indian Subcontinent is higher, the concept of Indoor Air Quality System at work place is highly beneficial for employees.
