Multi Utility Hrat Pumps (MU_HP)

Application/Usage

i) Residential Building and Complexes:

  • Simultaneous space cooling, water heating for bathing, dish washing, cloth drying, etc.

(ii) Commercial - Hotels, Restaurants, Hospitals, etc.

  • Space cooling, water heating/preheating and simultaneous production of cold and hot water streams, sea water desalination or water purification, liquid desiccant regeneration.

(iii) Industrial - Dairy, Pharmaceutical, Textile, Chemical Process, etc.

  • Water heating/preheating, air conditioning and simultaneous generation of cold and hot water stream, condenser to re-boiler heat pumping.
  • Cogeneration of air conditioning and hot water for process heating, boiler feed water heating or preheating.
  • Cogeneration of air conditioning and hot water for heating/preheating dryer air, sea water desalination or water purification, liquid desiccant regeneration.

Extraordinary features of the Product :

  • Simple Design: direct integration with process fluids is possible due to use of vented double wall tube-tube heat exchangers (TT_HE).
  • Modular Design with Wide Selection Range: 3.52 to 55 kW heating modules.
  • Larger Heat Duty Units with Multiple Modules: no upper limit.
  • High Flexibility in Heat Integration: three fluid heat exchangers enable heat to be transferred to one or the other fluid depending on the requirement.
  • Space Saving: 1/2 to 1/3 the space required as compared to the conventional systems catering to different utilities, multiple utilities are generated using a single Multi Utility Heat Pump; thereby eliminating need for multiple conventional units to generate different hot, cold and dehumidification utilities.
  • Maintenance Friendly: only one Multi Utility Heat Pump needs to be serviced in place of two to four different utility generators, chemical descaling may be used if required.
  • Low Fouling: fluid velocities are optimised to minimize fouling while keeping low pressure drops.
  • Increased Cooling Capacity: heat recovery from condensing side usually leads to lower condensing temperature and pressure, which increases subcooling, resulting in up to 40% improved performance
  • Operating Cost Saving: 30% to 70% energy saving, depending on the application and operating conditions when compared to that of multiple conventional systems.
  • Quick Starting: utilities obtained within 2 to 5 minutes from cold star.

Quantifiable and tangible benefits resulting from the innovation (give in metrics for quantification).

  • Attractive Initial Cost: Multi Utility Heat Pump may have lower initial cost compared to multiple systems generating individual hot and cold utilities.
  • Low Installation Charges: Built-in By-Pass can be Provided as an Option to Reduce On-Site Duct Work.
  • Attractive Payback Periods: Usually in the range of 3 to 18 months, depending on hours of operation.
  • CO2 Emission Reduction: fuel burnt or electricity used to generate the hot utility is conserved and additionally power consumed by the chiller or refrigeration unit is reduced.

Characteristics that make it stand out in comparison to its competitors (compare the features).

  • Greater Flexibility: different utilities can be generated as per the need/demand, with the help of the multi stream vented double wall heat exchangers which allow step less modulation of the various utility generation rates and delivery temperatures while continuing to save energy and cost.
  • Compact Design: a Multi Utility Heat Pump is typically same in size as compared to the conventional cold utility generator, so the space required to install the co-generated hot and cold utility generators is saved.
  • Double Wall Design: enables use for heating fluids for special applications like potable water generation, air for various drying applications, flammable or toxic fluids, temperature sensitive fluids, etc.
  • Uniform Heating or Cooling: Since the Multi Utility Heat Pump uses Tube-Tube Heat Exchanger which eliminates stagnation zones on both sides of the heat exchanger, Multi Utility Heat Pumps can also be used to heat or cool temperature sensitive fluids like oil, honey, fruit juices, and various industrial streams which have fibrous or particulate matter.
  • Low Fluid Holdup: enables quick stamp.
